Real Madrid have ramped up their interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz, according to sources speaking to ESPN. Wirtz, 21, has emerged as a key figure for Leverkusen under coach Xabi Alonso, playing a pivotal role in their Bundesliga and cup double last season. He was also called up to the German national team for last summer’s European Championship. His performances this season have only strengthened his reputation, with four goals and two assists in 10 Bundesliga appearances, plus three goals in four Champions League matches.

However, sources suggest that signing him in January would be challenging due to the likely high transfer fee Leverkusen would demand.
