The Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction for the 2025 season is scheduled for December 15 in Bengaluru, with each of the five franchises having a total budget of INR 15 crore, up from INR 13.5 crore last year. The auction will feature a host of top international stars, including England’s Heather Knight, New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu, and West Indies allrounder Deandra Dottin. Indian players like allrounder Sneh Rana, legspinner Poonam Yadav, and batter Veda Krishnamurthy will also be hoping to attract bids.

Delhi Capitals, who have finished as runners-up in the first two seasons, enter the auction with the smallest purse of INR 2.5 crore. In contrast, Gujarat Giants, who finished last in both editions, will have INR 4.4 crore to rebuild their squad after releasing seven players. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), with players like Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine, have INR 3.25 crore to spend after also letting go of seven players, including Knight, who missed the 2024 season due to international commitments.

Notably, England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge made the only transfer during the pre-season trade window, moving from UP Warriorz to RCB in an all-cash deal. Wyatt-Hodge did not feature in any games for UPW in 2024, with the team finishing fourth.

The 2025 season will be played over a three-week window in February-March before shifting to a new January-February window from 2026, as part of the new women’s Future Tours Programme. The auction will be a crucial event for teams looking to strengthen their squads ahead of the highly anticipated third season.
