Jasprit Bumrah has reclaimed the No. 1 position in the ICC Test bowler rankings, following a stellar performance in India’s victory over Australia in the first Test in Perth. Bumrah, who took a match-winning 8 for 72, including a crucial 5 for 30 in the first innings, surpassed South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood. His career-best rating of 883 points is a testament to his dominance in the format, as he continues to lead India’s fast bowling attack.
Bumrah’s rise to the top marks a return to the No. 1 spot, a position he briefly held earlier in 2024 after his nine-wicket haul against England. He had recently lost the ranking to Rabada, but his Perth heroics propelled him back to the summit.
In the batting rankings, Bumrah’s teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal has also reached a career milestone, moving to No. 2 in the Test batter rankings after scoring a brilliant 161 in India’s second innings. Jaiswal, now with a rating of 825, has overtaken New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and England’s Harry Brook. He is now just 78 points behind the top-ranked Joe Root.
In other rankings updates, Australia’s Travis Head moved up to No. 10, while India’s Virat Kohli gained nine spots to reach No. 13 after his 30th Test century. Mohammed Siraj, another key contributor in Perth, rose three places to No. 25 in the Test bowler rankings.
Meanwhile, in the West Indies’ victory over Bangladesh, fast bowlers Jayden Seales, Kemar Roach, and Alzarri Joseph all gained ground in the rankings. Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz also moved up to No. 3 in the all-rounders’ list.
India’s Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin continue to dominate the all-rounders’ rankings, holding the top two spots.
