Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel is set to make his mark in the coaching arena as he joins the Gujarat Titans’ support staff for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Parthiv Patel will take on multiple roles, including that of assistant coach, within a coaching framework led by head coach Ashish Nehra.
This marks Parthiv’s first official coaching role in the IPL since his retirement from professional cricket in 2020. After hanging up his gloves, he spent three seasons as a talent scout for the Mumbai Indians until 2023 and served as the batting coach for MI Emirates during the inaugural season of the ILT20 in 2023.
At 39, Parthiv becomes the second former Indian wicketkeeper to join an IPL team’s coaching staff, following Dinesh Karthik’s appointment with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Throughout his IPL career, Parthiv represented six franchises from 2008 to 2019, securing three titles: one with the Chennai Super Kings in 2010 and two with the Mumbai Indians in 2015 and 2017. Over 139 matches, he accumulated 2,848 runs, primarily opening the batting, with an impressive strike rate exceeding 120.
Parthiv’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the Gujarat Titans, who are looking to rebound after a seventh-place finish in the 2024 season, despite winning the championship in 2022 and finishing as runners-up in 2023. In addition to Nehra, the Titans’ coaching lineup includes Vikram Solanki as the director of cricket and Aashish Kapoor as an assistant coach.

Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten, who had shared coaching responsibilities with Nehra over the past three seasons, recently departed the franchise to take on the role of head coach for Pakistan’s white-ball teams.
With Parthiv Patel’s experience and insights, the Gujarat Titans are poised for a strategic overhaul as they aim to reclaim their position among the top teams in the IPL.
