In a strategic move ahead of their upcoming tour to the West Indies, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced that pace bowler Taskin Ahmed will sit out the second Test against South Africa. Khaled Ahmed has been called up to replace him in the squad, as Bangladesh prepares for a crucial match in Chattogram starting October 29.
The decision comes on the heels of Bangladesh’s defeat in the opening Test, where they lost by seven wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. With the series on the line, the selectors opted to rest Taskin, emphasizing the need to keep him fresh for a demanding schedule ahead.
A member of the selection panel explained, “Taskin is our all-format cricketer and will be away from home for 50 days as we have ODIs against Afghanistan, followed by a full series against the West Indies. We want to ensure he is fit and ready for the long tour, so resting him now is the best choice.”
The panel expressed confidence in Khaled Ahmed’s ability to step in, particularly since the team’s other pacers, Nahid Rana and Hasan Mahmud, are fit and prepared for the challenge.
The Bangladesh squad is set to travel to Chattogram on October 26, where they will aim to level the series against South Africa. T
