New Zealand Women to Visit India for ODI Series Post-T20 World Cup

The New Zealand Women’s cricket team will tour India for a three-match ODI series in Ahmedabad following the conclusion of the ongoing T20 World Cup final. The series, part of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship 2022-25, will take place on October 24, 27, and 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The series was originally scheduled for last year but had to be postponed due to India’s packed schedule, which included one-off Tests against England and Australia, following the conclusion of the 2023 Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).

Both teams are expected to field their full-strength squads, with key players likely missing at least the first couple of rounds of the WBBL 2024, which begins on October 25, the same day as the second ODI.

Six Indian players, including vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, are set to feature in this year’s WBBL, while the Indian team will also face Australia in three ODIs from December 5-11, after the conclusion of the WBBL.

New Zealand currently sits sixth in the ICC Women’s Championship (IWC) standings, having won eight of their 18 ODIs. India, as hosts for the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, has automatic qualification for the tournament. To provide the team with optimal exposure, the BCCI has allocated the series to the newly-built Narendra Modi Stadium.

The top five teams in the IWC standings will automatically qualify for the 2025 World Cup, while the remaining four teams will have to go through the qualifiers to secure their place in the tournament.
