Munaf Patel Named Delhi Capitals’ New Bowling Coach for IPL 2025

Former India bowler Munaf Patel has been named the new bowling coach of the Delhi Capitals for the 2025 IPL season. The franchise made the announcement on Tuesday, confirming Patel’s role alongside head coach Hemang Badani and director of cricket Venugopal Rao in a revamped coaching staff.

This marks Munaf Patel’s first high-profile coaching assignment after retiring from competitive cricket in 2018. Since his retirement, Patel, who was known for his ability to generate reverse swing and deliver pinpoint yorkers, has participated in various veteran cricket competitions.

Patel’s international career spanned from 2006 to 2011, during which he represented India in 86 matches across all formats. Notably, he was part of the 2011 ODI World Cup-winning squad. In the IPL, he played for teams like Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, and Gujarat Lions, winning the 2013 title with Mumbai Indians.

He takes over from former Australia allrounder James Hopes, with whom DC parted ways amicably earlier this year. The move is part of a broader overhaul of the franchise’s coaching staff, which also saw the departure of former head coach Ricky Ponting in July 2024.

As DC prepares for the upcoming IPL cycle and the mega auction later this month, the team has retained key players such as Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel. With a purse of INR 73 crore for the auction, DC will look to strengthen their squad and improve their fortunes after failing to qualify for the playoffs in the last three seasons.
