India’s Blistering Batting Blitz Keeps Test Alive Despite Rain Delays

After two rain-soaked days at Green Park, Kanpur, India stormed back into action on a sunny Monday, rewriting Test history with an explosive batting display. Rohit Sharma’s aggressive 23 off 11 balls set the tone for India’s record-breaking pace, as they posted the fastest team totals—50, 100, 150, 200, and 250—in men’s Test cricket. India declared their first innings at 285 for 9 in just 34.4 overs, putting Bangladesh under immense pressure after their 233-run total.

India’s charge was led by Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, who struck at blistering strike rates of 141.17 and 158.13, respectively. Jaiswal smashed a 31-ball fifty, while Rahul scored his fastest Test fifty in 33 balls. Their rapid scoring, alongside contributions from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, kept Bangladesh on the back foot as India raced ahead in the contest.

Bangladesh’s spin duo of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan fought back, picking up four wickets each on a tricky pitch. But India’s relentless aggression proved too much to handle, with fielders scattered to the boundary to counter the onslaught.

By stumps, R Ashwin had already dented Bangladesh’s second innings, trapping Zakir Hasan lbw and dismissing nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud. Bangladesh ended the day at 26 for 2, trailing India by 26 runs and facing an uphill task on the final day.

Ravindra Jadeja also made history, claiming his 300th Test wicket, as India’s bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, kept the pressure on the Bangladesh batting lineup.

With one day left, India’s high-speed approach and relentless attack have kept hopes of a result alive, turning the tide of a rain-affected Test.
