As the deadline for IPL 2025 player retentions approaches, the Gujarat Titans are making strategic decisions to solidify their squad for the upcoming mega auction. The franchise is expected to retain five pivotal players: Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, B Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Shahrukh Khan.
This move leaves the Titans with one right-to-match (RTM) card available at the auction, which could prove crucial in maintaining their competitive edge. While the specific retention amounts have not yet been disclosed, retaining these five players will result in at least INR 51 crore being deducted from the franchise’s auction purse of INR 120 crore. Should the team opt to pay more than this baseline, the higher figure will apply.
Shubman Gill, who has transitioned into the captaincy role for IPL 2024, and Rashid Khan, the team’s leading bowling all-rounder, are both essential to the Titans’ strategy moving forward. Gill, retained from the franchise’s inaugural auction in 2022 for INR 8 crore, has proven his leadership capabilities. Rashid, acquired for INR 15 crore, remains a critical asset in the bowling department.

The retention of 23-year-old B Sai Sudharsan over seasoned players like Mohammed Shami and David Miller is indicative of the Titans’ long-term vision. Sudharsan, who had a breakout season in IPL 2024 with 527 runs, is seen as a potential future Test player and has garnered attention from national selectors.
Meanwhile, uncapped all-rounders Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan have also made the cut. Tewatia, valued at INR 9 crore, has delivered several match-winning performances and plays a vital role in mentoring the younger players within the team. Shahrukh, purchased for INR 7.4 crore, is recognized for his explosive batting and all-round capabilities.
With the IPL 2025 mega auction on the horizon, the Gujarat Titans appear well-positioned to enhance their squad while retaining key players essential for their ongoing success.
