Bangladesh was under significant pressure as they finished Day 3 of the Antigua Test on 269 for 9, trailing West Indies by 181 runs. Despite resistance from Mominul Haque and Jaker Ali, the visitors remain on the back foot, with West Indies closing in on a potential follow-on after dominating the proceedings.
The day began with Bangladesh attempting to avoid the follow-on target of 251, but the West Indies bowlers, led by Alzarri Joseph, Jayden Seales, and Justin Greaves, continued to apply the pressure. Joseph finished with figures of 3 for 69, while Seales and Greaves also contributed to the tight control that left Bangladesh’s batting frail throughout the day.
Mominul, Jaker Lead the Fightback
Bangladesh had started the day cautiously, with Mominul Haque and Litton Das providing some early stability. Mominul, who has been in decent form, struck a pair of boundaries off Joseph before he was trapped leg before wicket by Seales for 50, after reaching his 21st Test fifty. Litton, usually a more aggressive batsman, played a controlled innings, making 40 runs off 76 balls, but he was eventually bowled by Shamarh Brooks as he misjudged a short ball.

As the West Indies bowlers tightened their grip, Bangladesh’s batting appeared fragile. However, a partnership between Jaker Ali and Taijul Islam offered some resistance in the afternoon session. The duo added 68 runs for the seventh wicket, helping Bangladesh edge closer to the follow-on target. Jaker, in particular, played a key role, bringing up his half-century with a combination of well-timed pull shots and aggressive hoicks. But after 19 gritty overs, Joseph struck again, dismissing Taijul before Seales removed Jaker for 53, leaving Bangladesh at a precarious 269 for 9 at stumps.
West Indies in Control
The West Indies bowlers have largely dominated, with Joseph and Seales combining to threaten Bangladesh’s middle order throughout the day. Meanwhile, Greaves’ all-round contributions have been crucial, and the hosts are well on top heading into Day 4, with Bangladesh’s tail-enders yet to fall.
The day was marked by a few heated moments, including a verbal exchange between Joseph and Bangladesh’s Taskin Ahmed after the fast bowler struck him on the head. However, despite a couple of dropped chances, the West Indies attack could not wrap up the innings before the close of play.
Looking Ahead
With Bangladesh still 181 runs behind, West Indies are firmly in control of the match. They will be hoping for a quick end to the Bangladesh innings on Day 4, as they look to enforce the follow-on or set up a sizable lead to press for a victory. Bangladesh will need to survive the final few overs of their innings and aim for a solid start in their second innings to avoid a heavy defeat.
As the match heads into its penultimate day, West Indies are in a commanding position, with the weather being the only potential disruption to their pursuit of a series-levelling victory.
