Ahmed Shahzad Slams PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi Questions Leadership and Cricket Knowledge

Former Pakistani opener Ahmed Shahzad has strongly criticized Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, raising doubts about his cricket knowledge and leadership skills. Shahzad’s remarks came in the aftermath of Pakistan’s shocking 10-wicket loss to Bangladesh in the first Test at Rawalpindi, a defeat that marked Bangladesh’s first-ever Test victory over Pakistan on home soil.

The embarrassing loss adds to Pakistan’s ongoing struggles in Test cricket, following a 3-0 series whitewash against Australia and extending their losing streak to four matches. The team’s last home Test win was in early 2021 against South Africa. Shahzad did not hold back in his critique of Naqvi, attributing the team’s poor performance to the PCB chairman’s lack of decisive action.

“This is what happens when you fail to make timely changes,” Shahzad commented on social media. “I was told that Mohsin Naqvi was a bold, resolute leader who would transform the PCB. But we haven’t seen that yet, and it’s clear that Mohsin Naqvi has no real understanding of cricket.”

Shahzad also accused Naqvi of making empty promises following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, particularly after their loss to India. “After the loss to India, you promised reforms and said you would ‘surgery’ Pakistan cricket, but nothing happened. You misled the public, just like others before you,” Shahzad added.

He further expressed concern about the lack of meaningful change in the sport’s governance, criticizing the ongoing influence of long-standing figures in Pakistan cricket. “The same people who have been running Pakistan cricket for the last 12-15 years are still in control. It has resulted in Bangladesh beating Pakistan in a Test match for the first time, something I never thought I’d see,” Shahzad concluded.
