India pacer Mohit Sharma has officially announced his retirement from all forms of the sport bringing down curtains on a career that lasted over a decade including stints both at the international level and in the IPL. The 37-year-old pacer announced the news in an emotional Instagram post, thanking those who played a role in his journey from Haryana cricket to the world stage.

Mohit, who donned the Indian shirt in 2013, played 34 international games for the country including 26 ODIs and eight T20s. In his ODI career, he took 31 wickets and in T20Is he scalped six wickets. He was a member of India’s team in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup as well, and bowled some useful spells playing his role of the second seamer.

Mohit thanked his teammates, Haryana Cricket Association and the coaches who supported him through his career in his retirement note. Special mention, and dedication, went out to ‘Anirudh Sir’ for his mentorship in steering him along to become a professional cricketer.

Mohit had also made a significant impact in the IPL, featuring in 120 games over a career that spanned 13 seasons (2013 to 2025, except for 2021 and 2022) and bagging 134 wickets. While he would play in three IPL finals, he was never able to hold the trophy.

He represented multiple IPL franchises, including:

  • Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – where he became a reliable death-overs bowler under MS Dhoni
  • Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings)
  • Delhi Capitals
  • Gujarat Titans (GT)

His best IPL season came in 2023 when he was Gujarat Titans’s second-highest wicket-taker only after Mohammed Shami.

Apart from the IPL, Mohit also had a good domestic career for Haryana having played 44 first class matches from 2011 to 2018 and picked up 127 wickets. His most recent competitive outing was earlier this year in the IPL, playing for Delhi Capitals against Punjab Kings. DC later released him at the end of 2026 IPL auction and it was curtains to his professional career.

Passion, discipline and a relentless work ethic saw Mohit Sharma build a career that would command respect across teams and formats. His retirement is the end of an impressive but also grueling journey, one that offers memories that are cherished by fans and team-mates alike.
