Austrian Cricket Association Apologises to Israel Cricket Over Incident During T20 World Cup Qualifier

The Austrian Cricket Association (ACA) has issued an unreserved apology to the Israel Cricket Association (ICA) and the Israel national team over an incident that occurred prior to their Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier A match on June 10. The apology, which came following an internal investigation, acknowledged the hurt and offence caused by the incident.

Although the exact details remain undisclosed, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that the ACA took swift action to address the issue, imposing appropriate disciplinary sanctions on the player involved. These actions were in line with the ACA’s disciplinary processes, according to an official statement.

The ICC facilitated a conciliation process between the ACA and ICA, aimed at resolving the matter in a manner consistent with the ICC’s Anti-Discrimination Code. The confidential process was overseen by Paul Mortimer, an independent expert in anti-discrimination and race relations.

The two teams had faced off at the Spinaceto ground in Rome as part of the T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier A, which serves as a qualifying route to the 2026 T20 World Cup. In the match, Austria emerged victorious with a commanding seven-wicket win, anchored by Aqib Iqbal’s 52* off 35 balls.

The ACA’s apology and the resolution of the issue reflect the ongoing commitment of both associations and the ICC to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment in international cricket.
