In an electrifying display of intent, India shattered multiple records in Kanpur, forcing the Test forward after two days of play were washed out. The day was marked by unprecedented batting feats, showcasing India’s aggressive approach.

1. Fastest Runs on Record: India became the first team to reach 50 runs in just 2.6 overs, surpassing England’s previous record of 4.2 overs set against the West Indies earlier this year. Additionally, they set new records for the quickest milestones to 100 (10.1 overs), 150 (18.2 overs), 200 (24.2 overs), and 250 runs (30.1 overs).

2. A Record-Breaking Year for Sixes: With a staggering 96 sixes smashed in 2024, India has set the record for the most maximums by a team in a calendar year, overtaking England’s 89 sixes in 2022. This record could extend further, with more Tests remaining in the year.

3. Historic Scoring Rate: India scored an astonishing 8.22 runs per over, the highest for any team scoring over 200 runs in an innings. This record eclipsed Australia’s previous best of 7.53 runs per over.

4. Unprecedented Opening Partnership: Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal set a new record for the highest partnership scoring rate of 14.34 in a 50+ stand in Tests, with 55 runs off just 23 balls, surpassing the previous record of 11.86 runs per over.

5. Quickfire Fifties: This match marked the second instance of two batters scoring 50 runs in 35 balls or fewer, with Jaiswal (31 balls) and KL Rahul (33 balls) joining forces. Jaiswal’s knock is the second quickest by an Indian on home soil.

6. Remarkable Day’s Play: A total of 437 runs were scored in the 4th day’s play in Kanpur, making it the second-highest on Indian soil and the most in a Test on the fourth day or beyond in Asia. Eighteen wickets fell during the day’s play, the highest in a match with over 400 runs.
