Arun Jaitley Stadium, formerly known as Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, is the second-oldest international cricket venue in India. The stadium was named after the fort, Feroz Shah Kotla, constructed by Sultan Feroz Shah Tughlaq during the Delhi Sultanate. Established in 1883, the stadium has undergone several renovations and is known locally as “Kotla,” which means citadel or fortress. The stadium was renamed in 2019 in honor of Arun Jaitley, a former Indian finance minister who was also the vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and president of the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA). The first international cricket match here was played in 1948, between India and the West Indies.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Pitch Report & Pitch Behavior

Historically, the pitches at Arun Jaitley Stadium were known for their low bounce and spin-friendly nature. However, after an ODI between India and Sri Lanka was canceled in December 2009 due to unsafe pitch conditions, the venue faced intense scrutiny. Despite this, significant changes to the pitch were not implemented until 2023. The extensive pitch renovations in preparation for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup transformed the surface into a batting paradise. High-scoring matches are now common at this ground.
