Bihar's cricket prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has made history by becoming the youngest player to secure an IPL contract at just 13 years and 243 days. The left-hand top-order batter was picked by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 1.10 crore (approximately US$0.13 million) in the 2024 IPL auction, surpassing the previous record held by players several years his senior. Suryavanshi’s rapid rise in cricket is remarkable. Less than two months ago, he scored a stunning 104 off 58 balls against Australia Under-19 in a four-day match, cementing his reputation as a future star. His breakthrough century made him the youngest player to score a century in youth cricket, at just 13 years and 187 days. Currently playing T20s for Bihar in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Suryavanshi is gaining experience at the senior level, having made his T20 debut just days ago. RR CEO Jake Lush McCrum praised Suryavanshi’s immense talent following the auction. "He's an incredible talent, and we’re excited to have him on board. There's a lot of work ahead to continue developing him, but his potential is undeniable."
