Ruturaj Gaikwad Biography & Personal Details
On January 31, 1997, in the Saswad neighborhood of Pune, Maharashtra’s Pargaon Memane hamlet, Ruturaj Gaikwad was born. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) employed his father, Dasharath Gaikwad. Sawita Gaikwad, his mother, worked as a teacher at a municipal school. After attending St. Joseph’s Boys’ High School in Pune, he attended Marathvada Mitra Mandal’s Polytechnic College for his primary education.
At 13, he joined Dilip Vengsarkar’s academy in Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune. He scored 306 runs at the Maharashtra Invitational Tournament in 2015, and he and teammate Vinay combined for an incredible 522-run partnership. During Maharashtra’s 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season, Gaikwad debuted first-class.
His List A debut was also in the 2016–17 season Vijay Hazare Trophy. He became the season’s third-highest run scorer with 444 points at a fantastic average of 63.42, three half-centuries, and a century in this competition. He was included in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup of the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams. CSK purchased him for a mere 20 lakhs during the 2019 Indian Premier League auction. In July 2021, he made his debut for the Indian team against Sri Lanka after joining Team India in 2021. Gaikwad joined the Indian team as vice-captain in 2023, supporting Jasprit Bumrah, who was making his comeback.
In July 2023, he became captain of the Indian team for the 2022 Asian Games and led the team to a gold medal. After hitting 123* against Australia, Gaikwad became the ninth batter from India to record a century in Twenty20 Internationals. In December 2023, he played his final ODI for Team India against South Africa.
