India’s rising star, Tilak Varma, has etched his name in the record books by becoming the first player, male or female, to score centuries in three consecutive T20 innings. The 22-year-old batter achieved this remarkable feat with a blistering 151 off 67 balls for Hyderabad against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.

Tilak’s latest knock follows two centuries during India’s recent tour of South Africa, where he scored 107* in Centurion and 120* in Johannesburg. His 151 in Rajkot makes him the first Indian male cricketer to score a 150-plus total in T20s, joining Kiran Navgire, who had scored 162* in the 2022 Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.

Batting at No. 3, Tilak’s explosive innings powered Hyderabad to a daunting 248/4, their highest score in the competition. His onslaught included 14 fours and 10 sixes, with a strike rate of 225.37. Tilak’s partnership of 122 runs for the second wicket off just 48 balls set the foundation for the huge total.

The Mumbai Indians retained Tilak ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, after a stellar three-season run with the franchise.
