Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially announced the inaugural men’s T10 competition, scheduled to take place from December 12 to 22, 2024. This tournament marks a significant milestone for SLC, which has long aimed to introduce a T10 format, particularly for men’s cricket.

The announcement comes after a partnership with T Ten Global Sports, a move that has invigorated SLC’s ambitions to host this fast-paced tournament. Previously, the focus had largely been on women’s cricket, but with this new collaboration, the board is confident of successfully launching the T10 event.

Shammi Silva, president of SLC, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming tournament, stating, “I am confident that the first-ever draft of the Lanka T10 Super League is going to set the platform for an exciting and entertaining tournament, which will add color to the Sri Lankan cricketing calendar and bring in a new experience to our players and fans alike.”

The tournament will feature six franchises, one more than the five that competed in the previous editions of the Lanka Premier League, Sri Lanka’s premier T20 competition. A player draft is set for November 10, which will include not only local talent but also international players, enhancing the competitive spirit of the league. Additionally, the later rounds of the draft will incorporate selections of emerging players from Zimbabwe and the West Indies, expanding the tournament’s appeal and diversity.

With the tournament scheduled between the conclusion of the second Test in South Africa and the commencement of a white-ball series in New Zealand, most of Sri Lanka’s top men’s players are expected to be available to participate, promising a high-quality display of cricket.
