Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are set to retain their core players ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, with South African power-hitter Heinrich Klaasen, Australian allrounder Pat Cummins, and Indian allrounder Abhishek Sharma among the top names confirmed for the next season. Klaasen will lead the retention charge, with reports indicating that SRH is ready to offer him a hefty INR 23 crore deal, making him their highest-priced retained player.
Pat Cummins, who captained SRH to the final of the 2024 IPL, will also remain with the team, with the Australian getting a retention deal worth INR 18 crore. The franchise is likely to continue with Cummins as captain for IPL 2025, following a highly successful season under his leadership. Abhishek Sharma, the Indian allrounder who made a huge impact in IPL 2024, is set to be retained for INR 14 crore.
In addition to these players, SRH is expected to soon finalize the retention of Travis Head, the explosive Australian opener, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, the promising Indian allrounder who made his T20I debut for India during the recently concluded series against Bangladesh.
The news of these retentions comes as the IPL franchise heads towards the deadline for player retention, which is set for October 31, 2024. Ahead of the mega auction later this year, teams can retain up to six players, with a maximum of five capped (either Indian or overseas) and two uncapped Indians. The retention offers also allow teams to use the right-to-match (RTM) cards in the upcoming auction.
