Cricket South Africa has announced its squads for the white-ball series against Afghanistan and Ireland, to be played in the UAE during September and October. Proteas head coach Rob Walter revealed the squads on Monday.

The series starts with three ODIs against Afghanistan, followed by ODIs and T20Is against Ireland. All-rounder Andile Simelane, who has shown impressive form with South Africa’s Emerging and “A” teams, has earned his first international call-up and will feature across all three formats. Spinner Nqaba Peter and all-rounder Jason Smith, who has represented South Africa in T20Is, are set to make their ODI debuts.

A major boost for the squad is the return of fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, who has recovered from a calf injury. Ngidi has been largely absent from international cricket since November, having played only two Tests and two T20Is. He was part of South Africa’s reserves for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup but did not feature in any matches.

Aiden Markram will captain the Proteas in the T20I series, while Temba Bavuma will lead the ODI squads for both the Afghanistan and Ireland series. The team is set to depart for the UAE on Saturday, September 14, with the first ODI against Afghanistan scheduled for September 18.
