Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), now operating as Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited, has won the media rights for all Asia Cup tournaments from 2024 through 2031 in a landmark deal. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has confirmed that Sony will cover all editions of the Men’s and Women’s Asia Cups, as well as the Men’s and Women’s Under-19 and Emerging Teams Asia Cups.

The deal, which marks a significant shift in the Asian cricket media landscape, reflects a more than 70% increase in value compared to the previous rights cycle. The total amount for the deal stands at $170 million, which Sony secured after a solitary bid in the e-auction on Friday. Jio-Star, the combined entity of Disney Star and Jio Cinema, was also expected to compete but chose not to participate in the auction, leaving Sony as the sole bidder.

The Asia Cup, one of the marquee cricket tournaments in the region, will see four editions under this new rights period. These include two in the One Day International (ODI) format and two in the T20 format. The 2025 edition will be held in India in T20 format, while Bangladesh will host the 2027 edition in ODI format. The following two editions will be staged in Pakistan (2029) and Sri Lanka (2031), both in ODI format.

Jay Shah, the Chairman of the ACC, expressed enthusiasm about the deal, calling it a “significant milestone” for the organization and for the development of cricket across Asia. He also highlighted Sony’s ability to provide world-class coverage of the tournaments across television, digital, and audio platforms, ensuring an immersive viewing experience for cricket fans worldwide.

“This partnership will ensure comprehensive and innovative coverage of Asian cricket’s marquee tournaments. We are confident that Sony Pictures Networks India will deliver the best possible experience to cricket fans across the region,” Shah said.

With this agreement, Sony will play a pivotal role in broadcasting the region’s premier cricket events, bringing together top talent from across Asia. The deal is expected to further elevate the profile of the Asia Cup and increase its visibility across the globe, continuing its legacy as one of the most prestigious tournaments in the sport.

The Asian Cricket Council is optimistic that this new partnership with Sony will enhance the tournament’s reach and contribute to the growth of cricket in Asia for years to come.
