Kanpur‘s persistent drizzle spoiled the second day’s action in the ongoing Test between India and Bangladesh, with not a single ball bowled due to the wet conditions. Rain last evening and overnight left the outfield soggy, while a light, intermittent drizzle throughout the day only worsened the situation. Despite multiple super-soppers making efforts to dry the ground, the play was officially called off at 2 PM, with the players returning to their hotel early in the day.
On Day 1, Bangladesh had managed 107 for 3 in 33 overs before the combination of rain and bad light halted play. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, opting to bowl first after a delayed toss, saw his bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj initially kept at bay by openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam. However, Akash Deep struck twice to put India on top before R Ashwin claimed Najmul Hossain Shanto to halt Bangladesh’s recovery.
With two full days washed out and more rain predicted, Bangladesh’s Shanto remains optimistic about day three, emphasizing the importance of building partnerships to stabilize their innings.
As the weather continues to loom large, both teams will be hoping for better conditions to resume the contest.
