Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have announced the appointment of Omkar Salvi as the new bowling coach for their men’s team ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Salvi, 46, joins the franchise following an impressive coaching career, including a successful tenure with Mumbai’s senior men’s side, where he guided them to their first Ranji Trophy title in eight years. He also played a key role in Mumbai’s victory over Rest of India in the Irani Cup later that year.
Salvi’s IPL experience is relatively limited but significant, having been part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) coaching staff during their 2024 title-winning campaign. His experience working with high-profile players and managing pressure situations in the IPL will be invaluable as he takes on the challenge of strengthening RCB’s bowling attack.
RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, expressed his enthusiasm for the signing, emphasizing Salvi’s expertise in developing fast bowlers. “We’re thrilled to welcome Omkar Salvi as RCB’s Bowling Coach. With his vast experience, especially in developing fast bowlers, and proven success at the domestic and IPL levels, he’s the perfect fit for our coaching team,” Bobat said. “Omkar’s technical expertise, local knowledge, and leadership will add huge value to our squad and environment.”
Salvi will be tasked with improving RCB’s bowling unit, an area that has been a focal point for the franchise as they aim to secure their first IPL title. His arrival will complement the earlier appointment of Dinesh Karthik as RCB’s batting coach. Karthik and Salvi have worked together before during their time at KKR and are expected to form a dynamic coaching partnership at RCB.
Salvi’s appointment comes at a crucial time for RCB, who are looking to bounce back after several near-miss seasons. His experience in both domestic cricket and the IPL gives the team a fresh and optimistic outlook heading into the 2025 season.
Salvi will begin his role after the conclusion of the ongoing Indian domestic season, as RCB looks to prepare for the upcoming IPL campaign with a renewed focus on both batting and bowling.
