Mohammad Salahuddin has been appointed as the new senior assistant coach of the Bangladesh national men’s cricket team, with his contract set to run until March 15, 2025, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed on Tuesday.
Salahuddin, a seasoned coach with over two decades of experience, returns to the national team setup, having previously served as an assistant coach and fielding coach for the side from 2006 to 2010. In addition to his work with the national team, Salahuddin has had an impressive career at both the domestic and international levels, coaching in various roles across different cricketing platforms.
BCB president Faruque Ahmed expressed his confidence in Salahuddin’s appointment, emphasizing that it is part of a broader plan to incorporate more local coaches into the national team framework. “When I took over as BCB president, I made a commitment to provide opportunities for deserving candidates to contribute to the national team setup. Salahuddin brings with him a wealth of experience, pedigree, and knowledge, making him the ideal candidate for this role. I firmly believe it is time to integrate more capable Bangladeshi coaches into the system,” said Faruque in a statement.
Salahuddin’s extensive coaching career includes stints at both the domestic and international levels. He has also worked as a specialist coach at the BCB National Cricket Academy (2010-2011) and took charge as the head coach of the Singapore national team in 2014. Under his guidance, Singapore competed in the ICC World Cricket League Division 4, marking a key chapter in his coaching journey.

The 49-year-old holds an ACC-Cricket Australia Level 3 coaching accreditation, which places him among the most qualified coaches in the region. He is particularly well-known for his success in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, where he led various teams to multiple titles.
Salahuddin’s appointment comes ahead of Bangladesh’s tour of the West Indies, where the team is scheduled to play two Tests, three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and three T20 Internationals (T20Is). Salahuddin will travel with the team on November 10, as they leave Dhaka for the series in the Caribbean.
His return to the national fold is seen as an exciting development, not only for his vast experience but also for his ability to nurture local talent and contribute to the future of Bangladesh cricket. The BCB’s move signals a clear intent to empower Bangladeshi coaches and provide them with greater opportunities in the national team setup.
With his appointment, Salahuddin is expected to play a vital role in shaping the team’s performance across formats, offering his expertise in fielding and overall team management.
