KL Rahul, often regarded as one of the most technically gifted batters in Indian cricket, has struggled to find consistency at the top level in recent years. Once a mainstay, Rahul has been dropped from India’s T20 squad and recently faltered during the first Test against Bangladesh. Managing just 16 runs off 52 balls in the first innings, Rahul looked far from his best.

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, speaking on ESPNcricinfo, pointed out that Rahul’s issues are less about technique and more about his mindset. Comparing Rahul’s struggles to his own experience, Manjrekar explained how the Indian opener seems to be battling internal doubts, playing without the natural instinct to score.

“This has been KL Rahul’s story. One moment he’s brilliant, and the next few innings, he seems out of place. Today, he batted almost without purpose,” said Manjrekar, describing how Rahul’s focus on technique may be disrupting his flow as a batter.

Despite Rahul having scored several notable hundreds in challenging conditions, Manjrekar highlighted his career average of 34 in 50 Test matches as a significant concern. According to Manjrekar, this inconsistency reflects a temperamental issue that continues to affect Rahul’s game, holding him back from realizing his full potential.
