Kamindu Mendis achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the fastest batter to reach 1000 Test runs in 75 years, hitting an unbeaten 182 in Sri Lanka’s first innings against New Zealand in Galle. He accomplished this in just 13 innings, matching Don Bradman’s pace, and now stands alongside Bradman as the third-fastest in Test history. Only Herbert Sutcliffe and Everton Weekes reached the milestone in fewer innings.

Mendis celebrated this achievement in style, launching a six off Rachin Ravindra to surpass the 178 runs needed for 1000. Notably, 634 of his runs have come from batting at No. 7 or lower, though this innings was from No. 5, reflecting his recent promotion in the batting order.

With an impressive average of 91.27 and a strike rate of 65.02, Mendis has crossed the 50-run mark nine times, scored five centuries, and achieved two scores over 150, with this 182 not out being his highest. His stellar performance includes hundreds in three different series this year across Bangladesh, England, and Sri Lanka, showcasing his adaptability and skill on various pitches.
