In an unprecedented move, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has released the schedule for the next three seasons, providing clarity on the dates for the 2025, 2026, and 2027 tournaments. According to an email sent to franchises and accessed by ESPNcricinfo, IPL 2025 will begin on March 14 and conclude with the final on May 25, while the 2026 and 2027 seasons will be played from March 15-May 31 and March 14-May 30, respectively.
While the dates are termed as “windows,” they are expected to remain unchanged, signaling the IPL’s long-term planning for its upcoming seasons. Notably, the 2025 season will consist of 74 matches, maintaining the same number of games as the previous three years. This figure is notably lower than the 84 matches initially mentioned in the IPL’s 2022 media rights tender for the 2023-2027 cycle, which also included a potential increase to 94 matches for the final year of the deal in 2027.
Overseas Players Fully Available for Next Three Seasons
In a major boost for IPL franchises, overseas players from most Full Member countries have been cleared by their respective cricket boards to participate fully in the IPL from 2025 to 2027. The exception remains Pakistan, where political tensions between the countries have kept their players out of the IPL since 2008.
The Australian cricket board (Cricket Australia) has given the green light for all its players, both international and domestic, to feature in the 2025 IPL season. However, in 2026, a three-match ODI series in Pakistan will see Australian players join the IPL after March 18. Additionally, the 2027 IPL will see Australian players join after a special one-off Test match between Australia and England in March to mark the 150th anniversary of Test cricket.
England’s players are also set for full availability in the IPL from 2025-2027. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that 18 centrally contracted players will be available for the tournament, including big names like Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, and Liam Livingstone. Notably absent from this list is England Test captain Ben Stokes, who will not enter the 2025 IPL mega auction.
Players from South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, and Zimbabwe are also set to be fully available for the IPL during this period. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed that its players will be fully available for the 2025 season, with players retained for 2026 and 2027 expected to follow suit.
However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has submitted a list of 13 players with varying availability across the three years. This includes key players like Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Litton Kumar Das, although their schedules may fluctuate based on international commitments.

What’s Next for IPL?
The official release of the IPL schedule for the 2025-2027 seasons is a significant development, as it not only provides a roadmap for future tournaments but also ensures that franchises will have access to top-tier international talent over the next three years. This move underscores the IPL’s commitment to providing both players and teams with ample preparation time while also creating consistency for fans and broadcasters.
With the 2025 IPL set to kick off in March, anticipation is already building for what promises to be an exciting period for both domestic and international cricket fans.
