The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for the highly anticipated (Border-Gavakar Trophy) five-Test tour of Australia, starting November 22, 2024. Among the notable inclusions are uncapped players Abhimanyu Easwaran, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, all of whom will be looking to make their mark on the international stage.
The tour kicks off with a warm-up match against India A in Perth from November 15 to 17, providing the players an opportunity to acclimatize before the first Test against Australia at the Perth Stadium, scheduled for November 22 to 26. Following the opening Test, the Indian team will face the Prime Minister’s XI in a tour match in Canberra on November 30 and December 1, before moving on to the day-night second Test in Adelaide from December 6 to 10.
India’s tour continues with crucial matches in Brisbane from December 14 to 18, and the traditional Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground starting December 26. The series will conclude with the New Year’s Test in Sydney on January 3.
Notably absent from the squad is spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who is sidelined due to a groin injury. This creates an opportunity for the team to showcase its depth, especially in the bowling department, which features seasoned players like Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, and R Jadeja.
India enters the series as the defending champions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, having triumphed in their last two tours of Australia with a 2-1 series win in both 2018-19 and 2020-21.
