In a significant move ahead of the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the inclusion of middle-order batter Ramandeep Singh and fast bowler Vijaykumar Vyshak in the squad. This marks the maiden call-up for both players, who have been in impressive form, particularly in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
The four-match T20I series is set to commence on November 8 in Durban. Ramandeep, who showcased his explosive batting capabilities with a blistering 17-ball 35 for Kolkata Knight Riders against Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this year, played a crucial role in his team’s success in the IPL 2024 season. His ability to score quickly in the lower order makes him a valuable addition to the squad.
Vijaykumar Vyshak, a promising fast bowler, also earned his spot after demonstrating consistent performances in domestic cricket and the IPL. His selection is seen as a strategic move to bolster India’s pace attack.
The announcement comes with notable absences, as three players have been ruled out due to injury. Batting allrounder Riyan Parag is currently rehabilitating from a chronic right shoulder injury. Fast bowler Mayank Yadav and seam-bowling allrounder Shivam Dube are also unavailable, with the BCCI citing unspecified injuries.
Mayank made his international debut during the recent T20I series against Bangladesh and was recognized for his pace, regularly crossing the 150 mark. However, he has faced recurring injury challenges, including an abdominal muscle issue that sidelined him during IPL 2024 after a promising start.
