The International Cricket Council (ICC) has canceled the planned event on November 11 to announce the schedule for the 2025 Champions Trophy, citing ongoing issues surrounding the tournament’s arrangements, particularly India’s participation.

The event, which was supposed to mark the 100-day countdown to the February 19-March 19 championship in Pakistan, has been called off due to unresolved scheduling complications. The ICC had planned to unveil the tournament’s official program in Lahore, but the announcement has now been postponed indefinitely.

An ICC official confirmed that discussions with the host nation, Pakistan, and participating teams were still underway regarding the schedule. “Once confirmed, we will announce through our normal channels,” the official said. The delay is attributed to India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the tournament, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) yet to receive approval from the Indian government for the tour.

The cancellation of the event has raised questions about the future of the tournament, particularly given the uncertainty around India’s participation. While the PCB has insisted it has not received any formal communication from the BCCI regarding India’s concerns, a hybrid model of hosting the tournament — which could involve relocating some matches to the UAE — is expected to be put in place. This model was anticipated earlier and may now be adopted, with Indian games likely to be shifted to Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

The ICC had originally scheduled India to play Bangladesh on February 20, New Zealand on February 23, and Pakistan on March 1, all in Lahore. However, the ongoing political and logistical issues, compounded by the hazardous air quality in Lahore, may force changes to the venues or dates, though no official confirmation has been given.

The cancellation of the November 11 event and the continuing discussions reflect the complex and delicate nature of hosting such a high-profile tournament, especially with the involvement of multiple stakeholders across countries with strained relations. As of now, the ICC and PCB are working to finalize an alternative plan, with the UAE likely to play a key role in the revised schedule.
