Nitish Kumar Reddy who has been selected for the India Tour of Zimbabwe for the T20 series, will have to wait for his debut on the international scene due to an injury. Shivam Dube will replace him on the team of fifteen players.
Reddy’s injury was not disclosed by the BCCI, but according to the news from, ESPN Cricinfo, his hernia has rendered him ineligible for the upcoming t20 series against Zimbabwe.
The 21-year-old seam-bowling all-rounder Reddy had an outstanding IPL 2024 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, earning him his first call-up to the Indian team. During the season, he amassed 303 runs at a strike rate of 142.92, taking three wickets in 13.1 overs.
He hit 64 off 37 balls in his second innings of the 2024 IPL season against Punjab Kings, helping SRH reach 182 and win by two runs in the process.
Later in the competition, in a group match against Rajasthan Royals, Reddy also struck an undefeated 76 off 42 balls. Reddy is among the young players the BCCI has targeted and who have spent the last year being monitored by the NCA.
Shivam Dube is currently in the West Indies and playing in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Even though he has only amassed 106 runs in six games with a strike rate of 107.07 and zero wickets thus far in the tournament, he had an incredible IPL 2024.
He was the pinch-hitter for the Chennai Super Kings, coming in to bat mostly in the middle overs. He ended the season with 396 runs in 14 games at an average of 162.29. His run total was second only to Ruturaj Gaikwad’s for CSK.
India will play the first t20 of the five-match series against Zimbabwe in Harare on July 6. Shubman Gill will lead the team.
