South Africa’s two-test series in Bangladesh will proceed as planned, following a positive security assessment by Cricket South Africa (CSA). The first Test is set for October 21-25 in Dhaka, with the second Test scheduled for October 29 to November 2 in Chattogram.
Cricket South Africa confirmed on Monday that the tour has been greenlit after a thorough “in-loco inspection” carried out by its operations manager, team security manager, safety and security consultant, and a representative from the South African Cricketers’ Association. Their recommendations were submitted after visiting Bangladesh last week.
The South African squad is expected to arrive in Dhaka on October 16, with the team selection to be announced later on Monday.

Concerns over security in Bangladesh had emerged due to political unrest in July and August, which resulted in the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. These concerns also prompted the relocation of the Women’s T20 World Cup to the UAE. However, CSA’s recent security evaluations indicated the situation in Bangladesh has stabilized, allowing the series to proceed. Sources within CSA had earlier stated that the tour would be called off if any risks were detected.
South Africa has only six Test matches left in the current World Test Championship cycle. Having played six Tests already, with two wins, three losses, and one draw, they currently sit in sixth place on the points table. To qualify for next year’s final at Lord’s, they need to secure at least five wins from their remaining games. South Africa’s Test schedule has been tight, with just two test series, as CSA has focused on launching SA20, their T20 domestic competition, while also cutting costs.
The last time South Africa faced Bangladesh in a Test series was in March-April 2022 when Bangladesh toured South Africa. Meanwhile, South Africa’s white-ball squads are in the UAE for their series against Ireland.
