Bangladesh has revealed its squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, with captain Nigar Sultana Joty set to lead a spin-heavy lineup in the UAE.
The 15-member squad is packed with a variety of left-arm spinners, off-break, and leg-break bowlers, emphasizing the team‘s spin strategy. Nahida Akter will spearhead the spin attack, supported by Shorna Akter, Rabeya, Sultana Khatun, and Fahima Khatun, all of whom are expected to weave a spin trap around their opponents.
On the pace front, Bangladesh will rely on Marufa Akter, Jahanara Alam, Mst. Ritu Moni, and Sobhana Mostary to balance out the bowling unit.
However, the absence of veteran all-rounder Rumana Ahmed stands out, along with Rubey Haider, Sharifa Khatun, Sabikun Nahar, and Ishma Tanjim, who were all part of Bangladesh’s Asia Cup squad earlier this year.
Bangladesh finds itself in Group B, facing tough competition from England, South Africa, the West Indies, and Scotland. Their campaign begins on October 3 in Sharjah against Scotland.
Since making their debut in the 2014 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, Bangladesh is still chasing a breakthrough into the knockout stages of the tournament.
