On Sunday, the BCCI revealed the Indian squad for the Bangladesh Test Series 2024. Notably, Rishabh Pant makes a comeback to the Test team for the first time since recovering from a severe car accident that had previously sidelined him. The squad also includes promising newcomers like Yash Dayal, who received his maiden call-up.
The Indian pace attack is strengthened by the return of Jasprit Bumrah, who has been absent since the T20 World Cup victory in June. Bumrah will be joined by Mohammed Siraj, with Akash Deep and Yash Dayal completing the pace lineup. India’s spin-heavy strategy is reflected in the selection of four spinners: Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav.
Rishabh Pant showcased his readiness during the Duleep Trophy, despite a subdued first innings for India A. Representing India B, Pant scored a crucial 61 off 47 balls and excelled behind the stumps, demonstrating sharp reflexes and consistent wicket-keeping.
Dhruv Jurel is named as the second wicketkeeper for the Test series, having impressed with his performance against England earlier this year. Jurel’s selection follows the disappointing form of KS Bharat, making him a strong choice after notable performances in his debut series and the Duleep Trophy.
Conversely, Shreyas Iyer, despite a quick half-century in the Duleep Trophy and a strong year in white-ball cricket, has been omitted from the Test squad. His recent red-ball performances and injury concerns have led to his exclusion, with Sarfaraz Khan retaining his spot in the middle order.
