The 2027 Test is expected to mirror the Centenary Test, which Australia won by 45 runs, a victory that matched the margin of their win in the very first Test, 150 years earlier. Cricket Australia (CA) announced the fixture earlier this year, and it will be a significant event in the cricketing calendar.
The match will coincide with the early days of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL), which is set to begin on March 14, 2027. According to an IPL email to franchises, players from Australia and England will join their respective IPL teams after the historic Test. The overlap of the two events highlights the global reach and importance of both formats of the game.
This clash of two cricketing giants at the MCG will undoubtedly be a fitting tribute to Test cricket’s rich history. Before this special Test, the two teams will meet in the 2025-26 Ashes series, with England hosting the 2027 edition.
