South Africa produced a dominant performance to defeat Scotland by 80 runs in their latest Women’s T20 World Cup match in Dubai, moving to the top of Group B.

South Africa Women: 166 for 5 (Kapp 43, Brits 43, Carter 1-17)

Scotland Women: 86 (Fraser 14, Mlaba 3-12, de Klerk 2-15)

South Africa beat Scotland by 80 runs

South Africa’s Strong Batting Display

South Africa’s openers, Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits, got the team off to a flying start, racing to 60 without loss by the end of the powerplay. Despite an early chance for Wolvaardt, who was dropped on 2, the pair found their rhythm, with Wolvaardt smashing 38 off 24 balls and Brits contributing 43 off 33.

The middle order, led by Marizanne Kapp, continued to press on after the openers’ solid start. Kapp was in fine form, blasting 43 off 24 balls, including three boundaries and a six, as South Africa piled up 70 runs in the final eight overs to finish at a commanding 166 for 5. This total became the highest of the tournament so far.

Scotland’s Collapse

Chasing 167 was always going to be a tough ask for Scotland, and they were quickly on the back foot as Chloe Tryon struck early, removing both Katherine Bryce and Sarah Bryce in consecutive overs. South Africa’s spinners were relentless, with Nonkululeko Mlaba (3 for 12) and Nadine de Klerk (2 for 15) wreaking havoc through the middle overs.

Scotland’s batting line-up crumbled under the pressure, and they were reduced to 45 for 6 by the ninth over. There was no recovery, as Scotland slid to 86 all out in the 18th over, giving South Africa an 80-run victory.
