History and Background of MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai 

Opened in 1916, MA Chidambaram Stadium is one of the oldest cricket stadiums in India. Its longstanding history and contribution to Indian cricket make it one of the most cherished grounds in the country. The stadium has been the home ground for the Tamil Nadu Cricket Team and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).  Chepauk is known for its electric atmosphere, especially when the stands are filled with passionate cricket lovers. Over the years, the stadium has been modernized, and after undergoing a major renovation in 2011, the capacity of this stadium was upgraded to accommodate 50,000 spectators with world-class amenities.

First-Ever Test Match Victory for India (1952) 

India recorded its first-ever Test victory at this venue against England in 1952. This remains one of the most historic moments in Indian cricket history, making the ground a symbol of national pride.

Sunil Gavaskar’s 30th Test Century (1983) 

Gavaskar broke Sir Donald Bradman’s record of 29 Test centuries at the MA Chidambaram Stadium when he scored his 30th Test century against the West Indies in 1983.

Virender Sehwag’s Triple Century (2008)

The explosive Indian opener Virender Sehwag etched his name in history with a brilliant 319-run knock against South Africa in 2008. This remains one of the greatest innings played at the venue.
