Kensington Oval is a cricket ground located in the western section of Bridgetown, Barbados’ capital city. Kensington was founded in 1871 and officially opened to the public in 1872. The first test match between the West Indies and England took place in 1930. The stadium seats up to 28,000 people. The bowling ends of this stadium are named after West Indian cricket greats Malcolm Marshall and Joel Garner. The stadium’s longest perimeter is 65 meters, while the shortest is only 58 meters long.
Kensington Oval is an excellent cricket venue where both batters and spinners find something on the wicket. The pitch offers a balanced surface where balls come nicely to the bat with good bounce, making it easy for batters to score boundaries. Spinners can exploit the wicket’s tendency to slow down as the game progresses.
