Rishabh Pant, making a return to test cricket after 632 days, equals MS Dhoni’s record for the most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper during the ongoing India-Bangladesh Test in Chennai.
Playing his first Test since December 2022, Pant reached his sixth Test century on Day 3, before falling for a well-crafted inning of 109 off 128 balls. His 167-run partnership with Shubman Gill was a key highlight of India’s 2nd inning.
Pant has now equaled Dhoni’s tally of six centuries in just 58 innings, compared to Dhoni’s 144. Wriddhiman Saha, with three centuries, is the next best on the list.
Globally, Adam Gilchrist holds the record for most centuries by a wicketkeeper with 17, followed by Andy Flower with 12. Dhoni ranks third on the all-time list of most 50+ scores by wicketkeepers (39), trailing Gilchrist (43) and Mark Boucher (40).
Since his debut in 2018, Pant’s six Test centuries lead the pack among contemporary wicketkeepers, with Quinton de Kock, Litton Das, and Mohammad Rizwan tied at three each.
