The West Indies Cricket Board has unveiled its 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the UAE. Hayley Matthews will captain the team, and the squad sees the exciting return of Deandra Dottin, who has rejoined the national setup after a brief hiatus following her retirement in 2022.
Dottin, a veteran with over 100 T20I appearances, brings a wealth of experience to the team. She joins other stalwarts like Shemaine Campbelle and Stafanie Taylor, each of whom has also reached the 100 international game milestone. With 96 T20Is to her name, Matthews is nearing that mark herself. Alongside her crucial batting role, Dottin’s medium-pace bowling will be a significant asset to the West Indies.
The squad is packed with all-rounders such as Matthews, Chinelle Henry, Zaida James, and Mandy Mangru, who offer versatile options in both batting and bowling. The bowling unit features Ashmini Munisar, Zaida James, Qiana Joseph, and Karishma Ramharack for spin duties, while Aaliyah Alleyne, Shamilia Connell, and debutant Nerissa Crafton will lead the pace attack.
In Group B of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, the West Indies will face off against England, South Africa, Scotland, and Bangladesh. Their campaign kicks off on October 4 against South Africa. They will also play warmup matches against Australia and India before the tournament starts.
